Nice Côte d’Azur Airport: Feasibility study – THESHOLD 04 L
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport would like to implement the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standard, particularly with regard to the portion concerning the Runway End Safety Area (RESA).
The standard now requires that a reserved area of 90 m x 90 m be provided at the end of the runway.
In this respect, the document: PROCEDURE PRO-EXT-04-01: THE PROCESS FOR CONVERTING THE NATIONAL AIRPORT SAFETY CERTIFICATE INTO A EUROPEAN CERTIFICATE published by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, states:
Article CS ADR-DSN.C.210 to 230: Compliance and solutions to be considered, on a case by case basis, for a RESA of 90 m by 2X the minimum runway width. The recommended solution must be identified in order for the certificate to be issued. Acceptance & Action Document (DAAD) possible for implementation.
Within this framework, it turns out that the 90 m x 90 m clearance zone at the end of the runway overlaps the existing inclined threshold of 04 L.
The Public limited company, Aéroport Nice Cote d’Azur SA asked CORINTHE Engineering to study the feasibility of constructing a RESA clearance zone on the 04 L threshold and to define what impact it would have on the existing installations.
The Airport’s services asked us to work on solution which would involve a ramp towards the sea, and considering the following points:
• An A380 project aircraft,
• That the aircraft could, if necessary, be in a flotation scenario at the end of its run,
• Not take into account other nearby safety-related phenomena such as intrusion by the Var River.
